heyyy. i dont know if you all ever visit this again (maybe except our recent tagger eugene. haha), but anw, WE DID IT!!

yupyup. PIANO WORKS 2007. we owned the stage with our music. thanks to all of you, we pulled through, despite the late nights we endured, the problems caused by ucc management, we all put up a great show, and also, with unexpected great sales of tickets. =)

fyi, our current amt of sales with me now is $2540. this is however NOT the final sales we collected since xinyu and christina and the man himself - mr seow, havent pay me yet. hehex. sales will be updated soon when i received all money in k. but even so, our current sale is already considered VERY GOOD. way to go people!! =)

also, to applaud our saleswoman of the concert - xinyu, who sold about 80 tickets +++!!!

alright, so yup, rest well during this hols people. we'll be back with more music =)

Michelle here. Well, thank you our junior junior Mufeng for reviving this DEAD blog. Haha.
Yes, we did a great job for Open Day! (except for the sign-up sheet blowing away, I agree, but the WIND has to play partial blame too=) Firstly, our sign-up sheet has more names than strings (ok that sounds so childish haha). Secondly, you guys were wonderful, dunno how you managed to 'capture' such a large audience in our Piano Room... and even though a huge proportion of the audience weren't potential members next year, they SURE genuinely enjoyed themselves and could appreciate what we and the MEP students were playing. And isn't the purpose of playing the piano as simple as allowing people to have a good time? We may not be an SYF cca but looks like without the SYF, we are able to concentrate more efforts on bringing music to people. (it's about them not us, anyway isn't it?) We're slowly but surely establishing our piano culture! Yes! Let's work harder to make 'stuffy piano music' enjoyable to the masses.
Looking forward to our camp too! Sorry for being so yakky.

Dear all!

I was choosing 6 photos to submit to the College Pub for the College Annual just now and really had a hard time choosing. But first, MUST really thank Mu feng for taking photos at almost every practice. There is even a photo album named " post-national day practice". Haha..

Anyway, I realise we did not have a nice photo of our most recent concert. We did not even take a group photo on the stage with the special lighting effects. Also, we might need to have more proper photos of us playing the piano. I also discovered that we do not have any photos of our weekly THursday morning meetings. BUt it's no wonder. It's so early, I think Mufeng is not in the mood to take photos yet. :-) IT's ok Mufeng, thanks alot for taking the photos!

Lastly, I counted the money we had collect so far. It's $83+. So we made supernormal profits! :-)

Hi everyone!

MR Seow will be performing at the Young Musicians' Society at 3 pm tml. He is playing as an accompanist to a vocalist. If anyone of you needs to de-stress or just happen to be around that area at that time can consider going to have a look. :-)

Anyway, I don't feel good about this morning's performance at the Poetry competition at all. Don't be surprised if you receive negative comments from your friends.
MOst importantly, I think we need to play the piano in LT 5 more often, no matter how much we dislike it. It might be better than feeling all heated up while playing it during a performance.

I am extremely grateful that we have our own music room now! Angela and I banged so hard at the piano in the music room after our performance. It really makes us feel much better after playing the LT5 piano. :-)

&&& regarding the discussion we had this afternoon (for those who aren't there or had to leave early), we decided to go east coast! whee~ can go cycling, & lunch picnic. yeah, but i wont be able to join you gals till around 1pm as im going for the RSAF open house with my YDSP friends. haha. so PLEASE leave some food for me or i'll go have lunch with them sia. haha.
and in answer to dear schezn's question "why east coast?" its cleaner and nicer than pasir ris' beach and easier for me to go to as the RSAF airbase is near eunos (thus easier for me to get there?) the beach in punggol is nothing. just a jetty (to ubin), some damn scary stray dogs with fleas and saliva dripping everywhere, looking like they want to eat you any second, and no facilities. yeahh....
and i dont have the cookies mix. its with yan qin, so she'll be the one who'll be baking them. lolx.

Hi everyone! I sure do miss every single one of u! It is so dull having to study all day long as I did today and yesterday. I forced myself to be in 'studying' mode. Trying to achieve 'studying mood'.

Anyway, just for those who weren't at the meeting today, Angela will be doing brownies, Michelle, Yan Qin and Chuling cookies tml and I don't know how they did it, but Strings sold all 36 cookies today again!

Hi everyone!

We sold all our cookies today! But there are several reasons to this.

1. We did not make many cookies. I think less than 20.
2. Ms Ong bought 5 cookies!
3. Most of the cookies are bought by teachers and my classmates.
4. Ours is the only stall that was being set up today!!!!

THe last point was the most hilarous! I think the other CCA groups might have died of an heart attack knowing that the Bazaar starts today. But still, my friend reminded me of "The theory of contestable markets". It just means that there is still a possibility of new competitors coming in. So we still got to think of new ideas for the packaging.

heys, i got some feedback from my friends who came our concert.

bad:
the lightings (not bright enough and it was sort of funny to see people switching on and off the lights {i alrd told her the light switch panel spoil})
the acoustics (the LT sound system is not that good for piano concerts) {maybe do LT5 the next time?}
the emcee (shouldnt stand in the middle, should stand at the sides cause cant see the face due to the lights from the ppt)
the announcing of who's playing (some people's names were not mentioned though it was in the programme notes)
good:
the pieces were very good (mainly the ravel, the 2nd prized piece)
the mood was fine

i dunno what else...
i typed mainly the bad ones for us to improve on.
haha.

sorry im typing in chinese again... i cant really find words to express in english currently...

钢琴演奏会结束了，心里感到不止一丁点空虚。我们付出的那么多，但出席的人数少得可怜。为什么？别问我。我真的对出席率感到很失望，我们为了准备这次的演奏会付出了时间，汗血，精力，但为什么出席率少之又少？是不是因为朋友不愿意支持我们？是不是我们时间安排得不妥当？是不是……？？？那天晚上，我真的想了很多，但那股失望与失落感久久无法远离我。总之，我相信大家在这次的演奏会上尽了能力付出了一切。
我很感谢一直以来默默在背后支持我们的老师：mr seow, mrs koh, ms ong。没有了你们，就不会有我们那天的成绩，就不会有这么成功的演出。虽然出席率不怎么理想，但是我坚信问题不是出在我们的身上。我有点想念演奏会前的那些忙碌的准备工作，每晚不断的练习，上台前担心又紧张的心情，等等。那段回忆是美好的，希望大家都会珍惜我们在一起的时光。
我想演奏会结束了，我们也应该继续为学习而忙碌了吧！大家都要为年底的升级考试做好从组的准备，做一段冲刺。

ehs, i guess the concert mattered a lot to me.. haha. and well, i think i should say this, in case mr seow think that im some nut case or something? eh, i sort of snapped during GC (guidance curriculum) on friday when we were filling up a worksheet on the last 3 times we got angry. it was something like "write down who you were angry with, what you were angry about, and how you reacted." then mr han asked me to share then i picked the wrong choice to say and ended up breaking down. heh. wells, i said that i was angry with those who promised to turn up for the concert, but didnt come. i dunno why i was just super pissed cause there was quite a number of my friends who PROMISED that they would come and ended up not turning up.
so i guess i can say that i learn quite a lot from this concert. i know that some people are just bluffing you when they said that they would come. i swear i'll ignore them till hell. heh. unles some sort of miracle happen. yeah...
anyways, im just void of emotion ever since yesterday. never mind... ignore this part. i think im making no sense here... haha.
i'll always be ME when im with you gals...

Schezn, thanks for all your hard work in baking the cookies. Really sorry it's SUCH a last minute work so much so that you need to bake the cookies all by yourself. But since you encountered so much problems, we certainly need to make things easier for you.

Firstly, we will not sell round cookies. I will just tell Strings that.

Secondly, for the second round of baking for the ordered cookies, I can ask Strings to help bake some. If not some people will need to go to Schezn's house to help bake the cookies.

Thirdly, we would change the pricing of the cookies. Is this all? Feel free to msg me if you have any other comments. I will be off to do PW soon. Will be back in the evening.

DEAR ALL :) SCHEZN HERE! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN QUITE A LONG TIME I THINK. Hello hello! We have some MAJOR cookie problems!

I tried baking today. I've got samples of all 26 (Xinyu! Only 26 letters in the alphabet, thank God!) letters EXCEPT "U" and "G"! Cos at first I couldn't figure out which cookie cutter was G, & the "U" fell apart. Anyway I'm going to try to take a photo of the cookies so you guys can see it first thing tomorrow morning SO check your emails k. I'll probably send the photo by email.

Now for the round cookies. I've got 36 small round cookies, & 5 heart-shaped ones (cos I was trying to lump the cookie dough onto the plate when I realized one looked like a heart & so with a lil touch-up I did actually manage to make heartshapes. But I stopped at 5, just for samples I guess.) Just to give you guys an idea of how TINY the cookies are, they're Famous Amos size, some thinner. We could bake them bigger I guess; I still have half a pack of cookie mix, and my mom is going to work again tomorrow so she can get more mix at her workplace if we need to.

I just read Xinyu's post & I get the idea we are mostly going to sell the round (or whatever shaped) cookies. (I didn't know it would be like that.) For 7 whole days. So we are going to stand at the booth and collate order forms for alphabet cookies AS WELL AS get people to buy the cookies, like 3 for$1. Now here's what I think:

If we want to stand at the booth & sell mainly the round cookies, then we are going to need at least a hundred cookies. Because some that I baked today are burnt. Blame the oven. :] & that might only last 2.5 days. !!! And my cookies are not the professional kind; it didn't exactly REGISTER in my mind that we are selling the round cookies by the package as our main product at the booth from Mon to Teachers Day when the alphabet cookies are ready. & when Xinyu told me about 3 for $1, I thought those cookies are just for people to try how the alphabet cookies would taste like. As in, they can also buy the cookies, we are selling just for fun, you know, people who will go, "HEY I want a cookie! Are they on sale?" Then you "sun bian" sell some to them. You know? Yeah so my cookies are really in quite a bad shape. & I didn't plan on baking anymore than I already have, cos I thought they were merely for sampling & "for-fun" selling.

The alphabet cookies are not easy to bake. Cookie cutters are too small, but if we can find bigger cutters that will eliminate the problem. Might we be able to find bigger cutters? Don't know. Since they're so small, 5 letters for $2.50 is a little expensive. However, people standing at the booth can kindly remind the public how much effort it will take to bake those cookies. SO the extra money they pay is for human labour. :)

Is it possible that we sell JUST the alphabet cookies? So for 7 days all we do is collate order forms, and bake enough cookies just for people to sample the cookies. & forget about selling 3 for $1? Mainly because my cookies are really not of the standard to sell 3 for $1. They're the sample standard. The cookie mix & butter only costs about $5 & that should bake about 55-60 letters, which yields anywhere between $16.50 & $24. Our profit will be between $11 and $19 for every 10 teachers, if each teacher has an average of 6 letters in his/her name. That's quite a lot, if we have good response, & if we didn't use any cookie dough for baking round cookies.

Besides, this is for Teachers Day. So students shouldn't really be buying cookies for themselves and eating on the spot? & if students want to buy round cookies for their teachers, maybe they can pre-order those as well, since I'm quite sure students won't buy round cookies & keep them at home for a week++ before giving them to their teachers (cookies will become unfresh). If they pre-order round cookies, then yay, we can make $$, as well as have more time for baking (one more weekend, & one holiday), & we or I can make better looking cookies. Then there's no problem selling 3 for $1 - they just have to order in advance.

My mom says the alphabet cookies aren't worth our effort. But I think what might attract people to buy the cookies is the fact that they are alphabet-shaped. I wouldn't consider buying fund-raising-round-cookies, at all. But I might take a look at alphabet or heart shaped cookies. So my mom's suggesting we forget the alphabets, and just do round cookies. But I'm suggesting we try the alphabet and forget the round ones FIRST, unless we do the round ones like the alphabet ones - preorder. If the alphabet ones really really don't sell, then let's just forget the alphabets and do the round ones - rationale: alphabet ones very time consuming, & turn out to be very small.

Now for the baking. Took about 50 mins to bake 26 letters (of course, with rather raw experience of baking. As I go along I should speed up.) How are we going to bake so many alphabet cookies! We have the Tuesday holiday. But I have H3 NUS on that day. Yeah. SOOO. Maybe we can split the work or something. Or do it on the weekend before that week.

& last thing. Let's set a target of how much we want to profit? So we don't kill ourselves over baking. If we get too big of a response (haha) & have no time to bake SO many cookies, we can play down our publicity or something so we (or I) don't die of baking & make the oven my/our grave. :) What I mean is, bake just enough to hit our profit target.

Ok here's enough blogging for one night. Please suggest/reply to Xinyu what you think asap! Because if we need more mix, I gotta call my mom like NOW, now as in when you read this entry.

Hi everyone! Before I go to the proper stuff, just wanted to blog about the concert.
I think we had alot to learn from this concert. It seems that a late afternoon concert is not a good choice. Although I admit I felt disappointed at first, I think we can treat this concert as a learning experience. I still was nervous on stage that day, so hopefully after a few more times, I won't be so nervous before a concert anymore. We wanted a post-concert celebration, right? I really wanted one too.. but I got to tell u now what we need to do by this month.

Firstly, I was STUNNED to know that the Teacher's Day Bazaar is starting on the coming Monday, 21/8. I was too preoccupied about the concert stuff that I chose to completely ignore about the deadlines about the other things. Luckily, everything seems to be in place now. I just to inform everyone of a few things.

The bazaar will be held for two weeks (21/8 -30-8) In case you don't know, 29/8 Tues is a school holiday due to Election Day, 31/8 Thurs is Teacher's Day celebrations and Friday is Teacher's Day Holiday! So actually, the bazaar will last only for 7 days instead of 10 days.

We will be selling cookies. A million thanks for Schezn who bought all 36 cookie cutters, from 'A' to 'Z'. For this coming Monday, it will be more on selling normal round cookies for the students to eat themselves and also them ordering the words that they would like. We will also provide some sampling for the first three days.

The pricing is as follows. Do give your comments if you have any.
5 letters: 50 cents each
10 letters: 40 cents each
more than 10 letter: 25 cents each.

Round cookies : 3 for $1

Stall duties:
We had only decided the duties for the first week. So for next week, Piano Ensemble will be in charge of the stall on wednesday and Friday and strings on Tuesday and Thursday. Monday will be both CCAs together as we foresee there will be some problems and we should have some representatives from each CCA to make the decision.

The stall duties are as follows:

Monday: Angela, Xinyu
Wednesday: Chu Ling, Yan Qin
Friday: Mufeng, Huei Li

Michelle will be doing the poster and Schezn has the most important role to play- that's baking the cookies! But feel free to visit the stall everyday, or rather, I strongly encourage everyone to visit it everyday! Just that the people in charge of each day need to take good care of the money and clean up after each break and lunch. And of course, providing good service. Time to see if you can be a good sales-girl! :-) Smile and go the extra mile. Or is it the other way round? Anyway, I remember it's GEMS. So figure out yourself what it stands for.

Next we are supposed to give a write-up to College Pub. for the annual school book or whatever it is called. (sorry I never bought it before ) We will need to submit a 100 words write-up by 1st September. I appeal everyone to give suggestions as what we want to include in this short write-up, so that Angela will have an easier time doing the final product.

As for the CCA best practice which we are doing a portfolio with the Strings, it is still in progress and I will contact you people when things are finalised. For the time being, Mufeng will be choosing 15-20 photos by tml night so that we can

So, when can we have a post-concert celebration? I seriously have no idea. Mr Seow will be having a workshop on 29/8 when we have no school. I shall discuss this together. Maybe we will have it after all these 3 events are over. Currently, I don't feel much different from the pre-concert days. I nearly choked when I know that the bazaar is on MOnday. Fyi, I was eating lunch when I got to know this news. Well, just got to think of the brighter side. The faster we do it, the earlier we can enjoy ourselves. So everyone, let's make this bazaar a memorable event for everyone! After that, we shall have a good celebration! After which, everyone need to STUDY DOUBLY HARD! Frankly, I am starting to panic a little. All thanks to everyone's support and encouragement, I am still surviving well so far. Thanks for all the laughter whenever we are together. Surely "Laughter is the best medicine" or should I say, immune booster? Even I was shocked myself when I woke up at 5 am today to complete both my Organic Chem and isomerism tutorials. I am starting to wonder where I got the energy from. Is it what YQ said, it's the power of Piano Ensemble that makes me so hyper the whole day or should you say, weeks? You need to exclude Economics tutorials though. I really struggle to keep awake during those lessons. Anyway, I certainly need this energy level till the end of October for me to survive Promos and PW WELL.

Lastly, Mr Seow really appeals to everyone to practise the piano at least 10-15 mins everyday. Or is it 20 mins? I really can't remember. Anyway, really hope everyone makes an effort to do so, if not you might have a really hard time when we resume proper practice during the holidays and especially the camp. u know, you will be sleeping just next to the piano, so you won't want to have nightmares during the camp. :-)

Just for everyone's information, we will be playing Liang Zu, Waltz of the Flowers and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto next Sat (26/8) for some Poetry thing.

Great concert...Would like to say how grateful I am towards you guys for your encouragement and reassurances, just when I was feeling stressed over how screwed up my piece was (you sure are good at concealing truths!)...makes me realise the true meaning of Piano Ensemble...spurring on and helping each other...do you think any of us could have pulled through alone? After all, the concert was not only about playing well, but also all the backstage stuff and logistics. Despite wrong notes/heels that mysteriously disintegrated/soles coming off/ominous prophecies etc....we still managed to put together a more than decent concert. We all seemed depressed and demoralised at first over the poor turnout (you should have seen HL's face)...but later it ceased to affect us as we realised the audience was actually having a good time. And that's what matters. Thank you everyone...the teachers, and esp xinyu our President who probably was the most stressed of all because she had to handle so many stuff + us being baddies, unwittingly not being serious enough/cooperative at times.

hello darlings~~~ im here to irritate again!!
that saturday was very uhs... interesting and illuminating... i must say. haha. mr seow got a nice voice... i believe that we are not bad either, considering almost none of us have had proper choir practices, and we didnt break the glass when we sang high notes, such as the "live" and the "give" parts... ... OOPS. sounds sort of wrong... but never mind.. i believe that everyone here are innocent... other than xinyu, i gues... wahahahahahahaha. just kidding~~ relax.
and the memory from 'cats' also sounds sort of wrong.. due to the fact that there is one part something like "touch me & you'll get happiness" or something like that. me & xinyu were almost ROFL when we heard it (raises eyebrows & winks)
here are the stuff that we gotta do/note (AGAIN)
1- meet monday (tmr) at piano room @ 1230 aka lunchtime. (hey, its my free period ohkay!!!)
& bring along shoes & clothes? (if you wanna stash em in the room..)
2- do & print posters asap monday night once we know the new timing & tell our friends to stay back & support!
3- zap and stick up posters in canteen area & ip blocks asap on tuesday
4- practice your own piece(s) and the encore song
5- wednesday pon CAAL for full dress the 2nd and the last time (full dress right? or just a run through? i cant remember again... sorry. like no one seem to remember other than ponning caal on wed. xpPp)
6- remember to bring scores and clothes (white top black bottoms) and shoes (court shoes or something like) on thursday!!! (this cant forget or else die for concert!)

hi everyone!

First of all, I must Mufeng for all the things she blogged in the previous entries. You don't know how thankful I am.

For your info, everyone is encouraged to invite friends from other schools to our concert. We hope to convince them that it is worthed paying to watch for our future concerts.

Lastly, I need to ask if everyone would like to pay around $4 for DVD recording of our concert. The video club is ok with filming our concert. Hope to get a reply from everyone soon.

Also, it is confirmed that we are having our rehearsal this Sat, 8 to 1. This might be our only proper rehearsal in LT1, so make it a good one. Do bring your shoes and clothes on that day.

heyhey! these are the updates today~
1. the official name of our concert is Voices of Nature the venue of the concert is LT1 at 4!!!!
2. we got our own dry run/tech run of whatever we have done this saturday at LT1
time is tbc (i think, or is it set and agreed at 8??)...
3. the dress code is depended on the piece you are playing... so it means that if you are playing a light song, wear lighter coloured clothes or something... and wear court shoes... (eehs,i dun have)
4. mr seow is preparing an encore piece, so get your friends to shout encore at the end of the concert, so that the piece will not go to waste! haha. or we can rush to the back door after our own piece and shout encore at the end!!! haha.
5. i have gone to bug the photography president to try to get us a photographer to take pictures that day... cause *ahem the chief photographer ahem* like quite dao though he is supposed to be in charge of the duties list. haha.
6. the front of the tee shirt is already designed today, so i guess it leaves the back!

heys people!! this blog is dead. how to spell?? D-E-A-D. dead. haha.
anyway with our up coming concert, i take it that everyone is busy practising and trying to fit everything from homework to online time to practising into our busy little 24/7 schedule... well, including the national day celebration or whatsoever stuff you gals & guy have up your sleeves! hahaha.
erm, in case no one is counting down, the concert will be held in about 12 day's time, including today. haha. and and and i think we're sort of lagging behind time, compared to the planning of the first and previous concert. (sounds grammatically wrong, but never mind =)) haha. so i guess we gotta really think hard for the concert name... haha.

rehearsals - i guess we need to time the whole thing... and practise like mad.. haha.

the previous time schezn posted something like that for the 1st concert was 26 days before the concert. now we only have 12 days!!!!!
by the way, wanna make mrs koh the "guest performer???" haha.
and what time is our this concert going to start exactly?? 430 or what? haha. can like decide asap also cause i think we can start telling our friends about the concert, and i have to tell the chief photographer of photog as early as possible so that someone can take our concert =D

i am here to irritate and terrorise this cute little bloggie~~

just wondering here, did anyone do the homework nice kind pleasant mr seow set us??
haha.
in case anyone doest know, we got HOMEWORK from MR SEOW!!!
wahahahahahahahahahahahahahaz.
1- practice your scales and arpeggios everyday to keep your fingers working, and also to set up the basics for running notes or arpeggio-like parts. also to not let your delicate fingers harden even if you are not practising your piece. lastly but not least, to gain keyboard control.
2- listen to the base of any musical piece, regardless if they are classical or pop, and try to figure out the base lines, and sound out the chords and play the piece by yourself!!
3- (i forgot what, but i guess the top 2 will be enough for now as we got work to do too~~)

I really want to thank every single one of you for making yesterday's party so enjoyable and memorable. Schezn, Angela, Huei Li, Michelle, Yan Qin, Mufeng and Adrian: this party would not have been possible without you. It was certainly a wonderful time where we got to know each other better.

Also, I just read some of our members' blogs and it was really heartening to know that some of us shared the same sentiment as me about the recent competition. Finally, we can be proud to say that we are in the NJC Piano Ensemble. I do not know about you, but everytime someone ask me for my CCA and the reply came as Piano Ensemble, I have this impression that they think it is an almost non-existent CCA except to play the piano once every week. Worse still, it can be seen as an arrogant CCA as you need a certain qualification to get in.

But now that we actually got a 2nd placing with our first appearance at VIVACE, people may start to take notice of our existence. I never expected this to happen. As everyone knows, NJC piano ensemble being a new CCA, everything we do will be a brand new experience. Every step we make will be a learning experience for us. Frankly, I am not sure if I would make a good pres, but I will assure you that I will try my best. But really, nothing would be possible without every single one of you and please feel free to give me any comments

Let's stay united and with our common passion for music, we can certainly take piano ensemble to greater heights. Most importantly, CCA is to be enjoyed and also where we can find lifelong friends.

Hi dears,

Mr. Lo has informed me that the grand piano in LT5 has been moved backstage (don't know why but that's not the issue) and it's NOT PLUGGED IN! What's wrong with the general NJ population?? Can't they read??? So...we'll have to check more vigilently and often. It's YOUR responsibility! =)

Also, ExCo...yep, you thought you wouldn't have it, huh? There'll be maybe 4 posts and since this is the 1st year, Miss Ong and I are probably going to just assign rather than go through the whole nomination/election process. So please let me know if you have any suggestions or objections to any particular person for any post. Sorry Adrian, you won't be included because this is going to carry over to next year. =( We're not leaving Mr. Seow out; it's just that since Miss Ong and I know you guys a bit better we thought we'll do it while I'm still here. And I can "handover" to Mr. Seow officially!

This will be good exposure for the piano ensemble! Does Roman already have the scores? As Xinyu pointed out, the accompanist may have to transpose to suit Roman's key. Can anyone transpose at sight? (It's not that hard) It will be good if we can arrange a time for both singer and pianist(s) to "jam" a little to find out what's the best arrangement.

Oh, by the way, I'm still going to be around for a couple of weeks so that's why I'm being so bossy! =)

Anyway, guess what? We are going to have a music room with the upright piano or pianos being shifted there and the music room is the now band room. So the entire band is going to shift out to one of the LT. Well, I guess this can solve some of our problems, like having no air-con or playing muted cos there is a GP test going on. But we might still need to book it or something, cos that room will be where the MEP lessons will be conducted. But we will see how then.

Next, the new teacher is coming down to NJ next Friday 16/6 during our practice that is from 9.30 am to 1 pm. Please try to make it so that the teacher will not get a wierd impression. :-)

Ok, to the most important thing at hand. We are invited by the Interact Club as a guest performer to play for their installation day a.k.a, the handing-over ceremony. It is quite a big thing for them and the whole ceremony will be held in either LT 1 or 5 from 5-8 on 28/7 if I didn't remember wrongly. Anyway, the details I got from them is that we are given around 5 to 8 mins to play and Roman is going to SING while the pianist play. I called Roman last night and he was quite ok with any songs but prefer recent songs and better still, to be love songs. OK, for one thing, I am hopeless on pop music. I do not even know what are the recent songs and this pretty explains my resources for such scores. So please anyone who have any scores or songs in mind, please voice out ASAP and then someone got to perform it. :-)

Hey! I am finding it extremely hard to get a time slot where everyone is free. But the most important thing now is that we need sit together and decide what we want to have for our next concert. Currently, a few of them have nothing to practise and I don't expect them to practise during the last week of the holidays which are reserved for intensive common test revison.

Ok, there's a practice slot this coming monday at LT 1 9.30 to 12.30. Angela and I would certainly be there to practise. UNfortunately, Schezn and Yan Qin is unable to make it, so a full attendance is impossible again.

Now I got a few suggestions. Everyone blog the ideas that they have regarding the concert. Please read the previous entry I blogged for the few suggestions we have. From there, I think everyone can get a rough gauge of what majority wants. (though we only have 9 people). Please note that the pieces need not be duets. Actually solos can be more interesting sometimes. So actually some of you who have pieces which you think are nice can perform those too....

Thanks Michelle for pointing that out. Getting scores from internet will certainly save alot of time. Now the problem is us agreeing on what we REALLY want for the concert. Since we want it to last longer, are we going to have any theme? We have the following suggestions:
A storyline for part of the concert (comments:good idea, but we need to work it)
A theme for the concert (This will be boring)
An entire mixture (The concert might seem quite aimless)
Collaborating with the other CCAs, dance, string ensemble, choir. Or rather asking the friends we know.

Ok, so we need to meet up one day and I really want it this week. Either 1 or 2 june. I am waiting for everyone's reply.

Also, the CIP person replied me saying that there is no pianos available. So I wasn't very keen in doing the CIP there.

xinyu was saying we have a limted score bank, but i found out tt this is not so. There is a staggering number of scores on the Internet (mostly in pdf. format). There's lyk so many it would take days, even months to pore through all of them. The scores comprise of music frm all genres. There's rock, jazz, blues, pop: for pop there's music by abba, alicia keys, norah jones, blue, even erm..britney spears? and etc. For classical, there's music frm the diff periods (medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, even 20th century), by even the most obscure of composers, prob the largest database. There's lotsa scores for other nationalities' music too, i.e anime themes, celtic music and scottish music:)We can forget about going to the esplanade library coz practically everything's here:

Hope everyone enjoyed yourself at Funtasia cos I sure did. This year's college day cum foodfair was much better than the one I had two years ago mainly because I wasn't walking around with my make-up on after the dance performance.

Anyway, Huei Li and I saw the male ballerina teacher in school today. He got the musician's look and not forgetting, a dancer's look. I thought he looks nice and does not seem to be one who can get violent. But now that I know our new teacher is fresh from NIE, it shoudn't be too bad. New teachers are generally more patient cos they have yet gone through the very tough times given by the difficult and seemingly hopeless students. With their sincerity to help Singapore nurure the future leaders which I believe NIE must have told them what teachers are meant to be, they most probably have remarkable patience levels NOW. Haha....

One more week to June HOlidays! Oh yah! I do hope everyone remembers our outing on Thursday! :-)

His name is Mr.XXXX (I only know his 1st name and you people are not allowed to call him that!) and he's just out from NIE, so it's not the one that Huei Li was fearing! Anyway, he seems really nice. I told him about the ensemble and the upcoming competition. He'll probably conduct the CCA like piano masterclasses. I told him that you lot are very close and also very independent. I said all the good stuff!

Yeah e concert was really good. Wish you guys had watched their performance of "Phantom of the Opera". A guy sang Christine's part. It was hilarious. The Phantom was intoning "Sing my Angel of Music, SING for me!". And there instead of Christine was this skinny bespectacled boy, standing stiff and serious on the stage. And everytime his voice went higher and higher it sounded all the more shriller. I tried my best to suppress my laughter cause he looked so serious it would be mean to mock his 'skill' but I couldn't help it, the poor guy just looked so out of place...his eyes were glazed and his face so deathly pale, as if he were possessed by the Phantom as he shrieked away. I laughed so very hard there were literally tears in my eyes. On a more serious note, we see that the element of comic drama really helps to enhance a piano performance. Maybe we can aim towards incorporating that into our nxt concert:)...

Hey, Michelle and I went to watch the RJC piano ensemble concert and all I could say was it was UNBELIEVEABLE! We were speechless and fascinated by the drama and especially a guy who sang Christine's part in the Phantom of the Opera piece. Their entire concert got all the elements that we discussed before. Acting, singing and even a powerpoint! A few pieces have a storyline too. They did such superb job that I must admit it was one of the best concerts I every watched. It was such a pity only two of us went. The last piece was totally unbelieveable and a guy even tried sounding a chord with his butt. It was certainly a concert worth remembering a lifetime. :-)

Anyway, please keep your last Thursday of the term which is 25/5 free. We are not having any practice that afternoon but going out for a farewell tea instead as Adrian will be going back Malaysia for the entire June Holidays.

Meanwhile take care and study hard for the upcoming tests! :-)

I understand everyone's feeling really tired and maybe sian cause we just attended a concert last Sunday, and that Mufeng has some impending exam. However, the thing is, Xinyu had already ordered 2 tix frm her friend, and due to some miscommunication error my friend accidentally ordered 2 more tix for us. So guess xinyu and i will have to go. gotta agree with xinyu...cca seems to make one really busy but it makes sch life more interesting...it was strange having more free afternoons after the concert...staying back in the library to mug...going home to mug...2/3 of a decade mugging for the Os and As...it feels incomplete...just coming to jc to study...coming to school to attend lessons den go home and 'look forward' to lessons the day after again. cca is a means to escape frm da stress in school, esp if it's a cca where u can actually do the activities u like. essential for sanity, even. today's meeting was subdued (except for mf typically goofing around:)...a low note after the excitement over the concert...and all the sad songs! i dunno what the new teacher expects of us...felt a little lost haha...piano ensemble won't be the same without mrs koh...

Today's practice has made me quite nostalgic. Not only because things will never be the same without Mrs Koh, but more importantly, I discover we, the NJ Piano Ensemble, have what it takes to be a true CCA.

CCA is initially created to allow students to pursue their interests outside classrooms. They are meant to be enjoyable, fun and memorable. In fact, I strongly believe that when students graduate from school, our CCA form a big part of our memories. I was fortunate to realise the importance of a good CCA when I was in Nanyang. Academic life in Nanyang was extremely stressful, but luckily, my CCA make my two years there worthwhile. You can trust your friends to make you laugh and brighten up your day even in your darkest moments. The worst thing a CCA can do is to add on to your stress. Given our workload from the academic subjects, there is certainly no need to stress oneself further. However sad to say, there are some CCAs who are like that. They are too obsessed about achievements and eventually, the members dread going to the CCA. I used to have this feeling too. But now, after every Piano Ensemble practice, I go back feeling happier than I had ever felt for that day. Like today, I was feeling a bit down before practice. There are just so much work to do. But after practice, I was reminded by my dear friends that there are just so much to life than just school work. It is certainly not worth feeling sad and spoiling my own mood over such things. Sometimes, that is all we need. When things go wrong, we just needed someone else to remind us that life is always wonderful no matter what happens.
In conclusion, I just to want to thank everyone: Angela, Yan Qin, Huei Li, Michelle, Mu Feng, Chu Ling, Schezn, Adrian and not forgetting Mrs Koh for making such a POSITIVE difference to my life. Although it had only been less than half a year, I already had good memories that I hold on dearly. All these wouldn't be possible without you all. Thanks a million! :-)

Hi everyone! I got some feedbacks on our concert and I am glad that everyone said it was nice and enjoyable! Haha.. but I can't stop laughing whenever I thought of how nervous everyone was. Yan Qin is the most poor thing. Mrs Koh also saw her legs shaking. Although some of us got a few slips here and there, but people had commneted they enjoyed it. I was certainly amazed when Angela told me her friend cried (literally) during the "On my Own" piece! :-)

Anyway, I had e-mailed to Singapore General Hospital regarding their volunteering services in particular the Arts Programme and Music Therapy Programme. I think basically we perform and interact with them. They did not mention the age limit on the website, so let's hope that we are able to help there. Meanwhile, if anyone of you has anything in mind, please say it out since everyone agreed on doing some form of CCA related CIP together.

As for the Vivace Inter-JC Piano Competition, the website is still down. The deadline for submission is 18 May. For the people who were not at the meeting when this is announced, we sort of agreed to just try it out. Just practice very very hard and try our best but don't expect too much. Cos I watched last year's concert. The standard was HIGH! The competition is 22 July, but I belive there will be qualifying rounds. So let's hope we still have the june Holidays to practise.

thanks to everyone for working together to make klavier: the first movement (or caviar: the first movement??!) a success. ok we were really nervous and hit some erm, obvious wrong notes, but still, people DID enjoy the performance, unless they were lying. I want to say, thank you MUFENG, CHULING and ADRIAN (prob a really busy J2) for being so supportive and enthusiastic even tho' you guys weren't going to be performing in this concert. It made me realise that it's not only the actual performance that contributes to a concert's success. Oh you guys better play at the next concert or i'll 死不瞑目！And now, I'm supposed to write an article on the concert for college pub. how am i gonna make it unbiased haha...

I think Michelle's idea of having free food can certainly attract some people to come, but I don't think sweets are filling. Frankly, I am starting to get worried about the turn out. Missing lunch to listen to a piano ensemble concert is certainly not very attractive. Nvrm, as this is our first attempt, we will do our best and make necessary changes in the future.

I am thinking of something but I am not sure if it would be good. For the Queen of Sheba piece, we can have ppt slides showing what might possibly be a storyline? Or scenery of Europe? Showing the majestic castles and mountains. This can satisfy their visual needs. For the Golliwogg piece which is more humorous, the slides can show funny clowns or stuff. This is just an idea to make the concert more interesting. We can discuss about it tml.

Hi, Chuling here.. Actually, to allow others to know more about our concert, we could go round the school telling them. Someone can also dress up like a note to create a greater impact. I think this would be far more effective than pasting posters around the school itself cause I think only a few people would notice it. We can do this during lunchtime and we can take turns.
As for the day itself, I think Michelle ideas are good. I think we should distribute some sweets during the concert. Not only would it keep the audience awake, they would also have something to look forward to other than the concert itself. Oh yah, it also helps to stop them from talking… Anyway, I was thinking about a suitable title for out concert and I came up with Not Just Piano… NJ piano… But after I saw Michelle’s idea, I thought that hers suits the concert more than mine.. so I guess we better stick to that idea..
And I won’t be able to make it for the practice on Monday, since the time has been changed to 3-4.30. My lesson only ends at 4.30 you see… yah.. I think that’s all I’m going to say. Let’s all practice harder for the concert yah.. jia you!

hi michelle here...scherzn's entry really overwhelmed me - there seems to be so much to do and there's only one month left! and her point abt how to "persuade them that giving us 30 minutes of their precious lunchtime is worth it" is probably the most crucial deciding factor for the success of our concert. can a pianist battle against a stomach positively wracked with hunger? and most of my friends think classical music is boring, ohno! maybe we could give them, erm, free food or sweets or sth? desperate times call for desperate measures like...bribery???kidding;)
Regarding xinyu's suggestion, thought it's quite effective, but then, would we have time(how long is the intermission)? and would people have the energy to respond to a quiz just to get a prize? also, would the info given then overlap with the info that will be given during the pub-stunt?
Regarding the 'leave the switch on at all times etc" signs, i had printed them last thursday, but have not put them at the pianos yet. i'll do so on mon when we will have access to the LTs with the pianos.sorry for the delay:

We could have one or two people communicating to the audience for this Friday's mini appearance. It would even be better if there is some sort of game. Questions like ''What type of music is the second piece?'' or "What, where, when is our first lunchtime concert held?'' I have Kit-kats to give away. :-) This might leave the audience a deeper impression of us. What do you all think?

As for the names, I liked the word ''only''. Maybe ''Only Klavier". Just a suggestion.

hey everyone! haha. erm, i think since most of you all have start posting entries on this blog so we might as well continue with this blog add...

and oh ya, i went to watch the choir concert too. it's great. haha. if you all need the pa crew to do all those mics, lightings stuff, i can ask my friends in my class and my senior class (since most of them form almost more than half in PA). and if you all want banner, actually we can paint one in a fast time (if we are very efficient that is), and if the design is simple.

over to the concert name, i kinda like michelle's suggestion of "klavier: the first movement". i cant really think of other ideas.. and we should really try to spread the word around for our piano ensemble concert. since we are new, we should start telling everyone else about this concert, and maybe that piano ensemble does exist in nj. i've got friends who still dont even know this cca exists. -.-"

oh ya, and to michelle and chuling, i think you should start printing the "do not plug out the switch" for the pianos soon. cause after the choir concert, i noticed that they plug out the switch for the piano and they didnt bother plugging in back. so we should start warning the rest not to plug the switch out.

hey everyone! this is schezn. :)

as xinyu's said in the email, there's REALLY ALOT TO DO. did anyone else go for the choir concert? it was very inspiring and heart-lifting. i hope our concert will be just as impactful. :)

i'm linking our concert to the choir one because the choir concert was also in lt5. it makes a big difference where the concert's held - the atmosphere, i guess. until today, i had this idea that our concert's really small and kinda casual/informal. sitting in the lt for soundscape today made me realize that because of the location itself, the lt's an auditorium, we can actually up the quality of our concert to make it even more impressive/grand.

since it's our first public appearance, we can use this chance to make piano ensemble look really really really good and it'll be our first step to establishing ourselves in Nj!

here're some thoughts i have about making our concert more impressive -twiggles eyebrows :

name of concert *urgent!*
ushers - for soundscape, the ushers made me feel really welcome. believe it or not, the place seemed warmer with them at the door.
MCs - good MCs will help our ensemble engage with the audience. the choir already had many fans in the audience. for us, we have, well, none, YET! so. if we have good MCing, we can become more personal with the audience and win their hearts over! *we can start telling our friends to come support us and cheer, to create a warmer atmosphere :)
decoration - choir had a banner, nice and big and attractive. to make one for piano ensemble may be a lil difficult cos of time, but we could think of decoration like flowers for the stage..?
lighting - do any of us know how to operate the PA room? im hoping to learn cos guitar ensemble's having a concert too and i volunteered to help with lighting. may not learn in time for our concert, so in that case, do any of us have friends in PA in j2 that can help? we'll also need PA support for mikes!
posters/pictures - have we seen the posters for SSO and other concerts before? they always have a picture of the soloist or the orchestra, like posing with the instru or something. we didn't get to do our last photoshoot, but we could take a really NICE photo with all of us posing at the piano and use it on the poster. just a suggestion. :)
format of concert - the 2nd half of choir concert was in the form of a "lecture". they had MCing between every small group's performance. so.. how should we do our concert? like the MCing wise?
rehearsals - we'll need alot of rehearsals to practice all the wallking in and the MCing and PA and lighting, etc etc.
pubstunts - since we're new, and since we'll be eating into the audience's lunchtime, guess we should do more to persuade them that giving us 30 minutes of their precious lunchtime is worth it. notice our audience'll hafta go hungry just to attend our concert. :( and we have to do this FAST cos we need to tell council more than 2 weeks in advance or something, and we need mrs koh to vet and approve of it.

as of today, 1st april, we have only 26 days left to the day of our concert. and that was not an april fool's joke. let's call for an urgent meeting! :
last thing, how about every time we blog, we introduce who we are first? so we don't get confused once more people post. :D just a suggestion.

Hey pple!

Hope you all enjoyed your enrichment week!:-) Now, we had lots of stuff to do.

I was told just a few days ago that we are invited to perform in talentime. We are to entertain them when the judges are deciding on the results. As it is to be held next Friday (7/4) and the rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, we need to make decisions fast. The performance part is settled but I am thinking whether someone would like to say something after the performance to tell them more about my upcoming concert. PLease think about it and volunteer yourself if you are free to be present on talentime. :-)

Another emergency is to think about names for our concert and also for ourselves. I am not a creative person at all. I thought of ''Éxploration'' as it can bring our the meaning that we are trying something new cos this is our first concert. So far, we had ''pianoforte'' too, but that's more for the name of our piano ensemble. Do post your ideas up here so that everyone can have a look and it might spark out new ideas. :-)

Our next practice is on Monday from 3 to 4.30. Really sorry if this is a bit rush, cos the LTs are fully booked for the rest of the days of the week. Mrs Koh booked both from 3 to 4.30. Please msg me if you cannot make it at all for the practices.

Lastly, do work hard for our lunchtime concert. We got to write two lines (?) about our pieces for ppt. Also, time you piece when it's polished.
